The Land Down Under

Want a true test of bravado where the reward is greater than the challenge?  Let’s go spelunking!

Lick Creek Cave in the Little Belt Mountains is located about 15 miles south of the Ranches at Belt creek. A 3/4 mile hike will lead you to the entrance, and then, you’ll climb 600 feet in elevation. Lick Creek Cave has the largest room in the State of Montana. The “lobby” is 500 feet in diameter with an 80 foot ceiling. The descent to the bottom of the Entrance Pit, “Fat Man’s Misery”, the traverse across the wall of the ‘Bottomless Pit’, and the ladder are all challenges to be negotiated on your tour. Geological formations include stalagmites; stalactites, columns, “soda straws”, “popcorn”, ribbon stone, and flow stone. The cave spans an entire mile from entrance to exit.
